मुख्यमंत्री रेखा गुप्ता ने शुक्रवार को तिमारपुर के संजय बस्ती में ‘अटल कैंटीन’ की आधारशिला रखी और घोषणा की कि सरकार 25 दिसंबर को पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी की जयंती पर राजधानी भर में ऐसी 100 कैंटीनों का उद्घाटन करेगी।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रत्येक कैंटीन में 5 रुपये में ताजा, स्वच्छ भोजन परोसा जाएगा। उन्होंने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि उनका प्रशासन यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है कि कोई भी नागरिक भूखा न सोए। पिछली सरकारों पर निशाना साधते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने यह भी कहा कि दिल्ली की झुग्गी बस्तियों को दशकों तक उपेक्षा का सामना करना पड़ा।
उन्होंने कहा, “पहली बार, मौजूदा सरकार ने झुग्गी-झोपड़ियों के विकास के लिए ₹700 करोड़ आवंटित किए हैं और सड़कों, नालियों, शौचालयों, पार्कों, स्वास्थ्य सुविधाओं और सामुदायिक बुनियादी ढाँचे पर काम तेज़ी से चल रहा है। हम यहाँ झुग्गी-झोपड़ियों को तोड़ने नहीं आए हैं। हम यह सुनिश्चित करने आए हैं कि उनमें रहने वाले हर परिवार को सुरक्षा और ज़रूरी सुविधाएँ मिलें।” गुप्ता ने आगे कहा कि सभी गरीब परिवारों को शौचालय, रसोई और एलपीजी कनेक्शन से सुसज्जित पक्के घर दिए जाएँगे।
