सोमवती अमावस्या पर आज हरिद्वार हर की पैड़ी में गंगा स्नान के लिए लाखों श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ उमड़ी। गंगा के जयकारे के उद्घोष से गंगा घाट गूंज पड़े। आज पुरुषोत्तम मास का अंतिम दिन है और संक्रांति है।
इस दिन सोमवती अमावस्या का होना अत्यंत पुण्यदायी माना जाता है। इस दिन गंगा स्नान करने से मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है और गंगा स्नान का कई सौ गुना फल प्राप्त होता है। आज हरिद्वार में लाखों लोग गंगा स्नान के लिए पहुंचे हैं।

हर की पैड़ी और आसपास के घाटों में सुरक्षा के कड़े इंतजाम किए गए हैं। चप्पे-चप्पे पर पुलिस तैनात है। हरिद्वार के जिलाधिकारी मयूर दीक्षित और वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक नवनीत सिंह हर की पैड़ी पर सुबह तड़के से ही तैनात है।हर की पैड़ी पर उत्तराखंड की पुलिस के अलावा केंद्रीय सुरक्षा बल भी तैनात किए गए हैं।
